i didn't even want to go to the beach. it crossed my mind to say "i'll just wait here for everyone to come back," and then sit by my phone and wait for it to beep or ring or something. but i went to the beach. and the ocean was beautiful. it was beautiful and enormous. powerful and dangerous. and as the waves got bigger and darker, i just wanted to be in them. i ran in. and it felt good to be lost in the middle of something so much bigger than me...something that could surely destroy me...something i had no control of...no responsibility for. because there is nothing i can do to change the ocean. there is nothing i can do to re-route its waves. i have a choice to survive it or not...keep my head above or drown in its current. i thought of peter standing in the midst of such waves. and i wept at the thought of it. salt water to salt water. desire to keep my head above water and the remembrance of what that requires. it was perfect. just what i needed on an easter sunday.

It was so good to see you get lost in something so much bigger than yourself. I've never seen you look more beautiful.
i am pretty terrified of the ocean. i can handle the beach well enough, but the ocean is just awesomely horrifying to me.
so when you wrote, "i have a choice to survive it," i found that very difficult to believe.
even though this goes against the whole message of your blog...be careful out there!
remember the time we ran into newport fully clothed?
I wish I was there this easter. missed you!
