coincidence?

for those of you who are mutual friends with myself and mr. peters, you may have noticed an interesting correlation between his blog and my own.

in his latest publication, sir joshua listed the books HE is hoping to read in the upcoming season. describing one entitled "Foolishness and the Greeks: The Gospel and Western Culture", i quote:

"This is a superb theological treatment of the relationship between the Christian gospel and Western culture. Newbigin skilfully guides his reader through the contours of jsut how Western culture has impacted and in some respects, subverted the Christian message [blada blada blada]."

to bring this comparison home, let me quote my own recent blog:

"i think you can tell a lot about a person by which section of the store they are drawn to. i have observed this myself, so i usually walk through the doors with the intention of navigating myself to a more prestigious section of books...thinking, perhaps if i surround myself with intellect, i will learn to enjoy and therefore become more intellectual...then i ask myself, "what are you doing? books are not trophies. give up this vain pursuit of intellect, and make your way to the back of the store." where do i end up? the children's section. always the children's section. and, listen, i have tried to talk myself out of it...justify it...hide it...but today i decided it was time to let myself be who i am. i love children's books, damn it. and i really, truly love pop-up books."

even the careless misspelling of the words "skilfully" and "jsut" does not distract from mr. peters' attempt at superiority. well done, joshua. well done. you may be comfortable in the philosophy section at barnes and noble, but your attempt at subtlety is pitiable. i hope your theological-political blather keeps you warm at night.
