prop 7 and 10.

ok...i don't feel as confident about these as i do about the others. but here are my very brief thoughts for what they are worth.

prop 7 requires that california utility companies use renewable resources for at least half of their power by 2025. we have a requirement already that requires 20% by 2010. this is basically the next step to further that goal. there are many provisions listed...too many for me to go into.

i think i love this proposition. it would slow down the hideous waste we're creating every day. it would put to use the fieldfulls (no, it's not a word...i made it up) of power windmills that are going to waste even now. it caps the consumer's shared increase in cost at 3%. it would potentially offer our state a substantial amount of new, immediate, and well paid jobs. i don't really see the problem here, other than costs to the utility companies.

maybe i'm missing something...feel free to tell me if i am. but as of today, i'm voting yea to prop 7.

prop 10, on the other hand, though it supports cleaner fuel, does not sound like such a great idea to me. it offers a rebate to consumers who buy hybrid and alternatively fueled vehicles. though i'm a fan of cleaner fuel, and less of it, i don't see that this is a terribly efficient way to get there. i would more support a requirement on the car companies to begin producing less gas/oil dependent vehicles (or something of the sort...i'm not a prop-writer) rather than a rebate to the consumer. this will come out of taxes that i feel can go to more important things at this point in time.

so, for me, it's a yes to prop 7 and a no to prop 10.
