i meant to have much more of my thought processes regarding the upcoming election typed out and in some semblance of order at this point, but school, i am afraid, is sucking all my brain energy.
i do want to say this though...and let me make a disclaimer knowing that some will read this and roll their eyes: i don't say this out of judgement or condescension like i think i'm better...this is something that truly just bums me out.
i wish there was a higher level of respect in this country. i wish that people respected each other, and in this moment in this race, i wish that people respected leadership. i understand why they don't...i understand the frustration and share it. but i wish we could find a way to offer even some level of respect in our debating. the constant jabbing and disrespecting is really wearing on me. we look foolish because of it. i can't turn anywhere anymore without someone making a cheap shot at a candidate or one of our current leaders. i'm not against free speech...i'm not against voicing opinion...but there's a respectful way to do it. there's even a respectful way to poke fun. i don't see it, though...at least not very often. and i'm tired of it.
we're down to just days away from the election now, and i remain undecided. i will, assuredly, make my final decision in time. and i guarantee that it will be made on facts, integrity, and what i believe offers the most hope for our country. it will not be made based on popularity (secular or faith-based). nor will it be made based on cheap jokes or disrespect offered from supporters of either side. i'm done with that. and i'm even a little angry about it.
and you know what...i'm even going to be bold enough to say this:
i may not have voted for him. i may not agree with most of his decisions. i may even be frustrated by the man. but i respect george w. bush because he is our president. that title alone should be enough for me to voice my opinions and disagreements with respect and discretion. it does this country nothing but ill to minimize his leadership. it doesn't make anyone look better.
blame for the foolish reputation of this country lies far more heavily on those constantly cheapening the oval office than it does on any decision that has come out of it.

Awesome post, Loisa. Do you mind if I link to it?
not at all, steve. link away.
Thank you for saying this. Couldn't have said it better myself. The world needs more people like you.

Some very terrible people have legitimately help respectable titles--people who paid no attention to respectful and discreet disagreement.
