i wrote a good friend of mine in the wee hours of the morning complaining of my severe writer's block and the terror it strikes in my heart. i'll keep his name anonymous just in case he doesn't want anyone knowing how twisted he is. but his response was brilliant. here is a piece of it:
"...Songwriting is like pooping. Bowels have muscles to constrict because you don't want to be pooping constantly. Instead, you spend all day farting, releasing little whiffs of what's in you (that's the practice I mentioned - writing everyday means a lot of what you write will just stink, but no one needs to know where it came from). But finally, you've built up, you sense the urge, you explode, and then you savor the rush. Of course, even then, 99.9999% of the time, it's just sh**, but every now and then, 'Oh, look...corn!'..."
some people just have a way with words.

That is absolutely brilliant. It's the perfect analogy (and an excellent visual!)
